BACKGROUND

 

On November 6, 2018, the City of Patterson consolidated its municipal election with the Statewide General Election conducted on November 6, 2018 by Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters. The City of Patterson held its municipal election for the positions of Mayor at Large, two year term (December 2018 - December 2020), Councilmember District B and Councilmember District D, both four year terms (December 2018 - December 2022). The City of Patterson also placed a measure on the ballot on this election, asking the voters to vote in favor of a cannabis business license tax, Measure Y.

 

The City Clerk/Election's Official of the City of Patterson is now hereby requesting for City Council of the City of Patterson to approve Resolution No. 2018-86, accepting the certification of the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters of Stanislaus, certified by the City Clerk/Election's Official of the City of Patterson, and declare the results of said election and to install the newly-elected officers of which the City Council finds have the highest number of votes received, including approving the results in favor of Measure Y (Cannabis Business License Tax), which authorizes the City Council of the City of Patterson to impose a business license tax at a rate of up to fifteen percent (15%) of gross receipts on cannabis businesses and dispensaries, to help fund general municipal services. 

 

FISCAL IMPACT

 

The City anticipates significant revenue resulting from the Cannabis Business License Tax.
